The Victoriana's Revenge by Smaggers The Victoriana's Revenge by Smaggers
The Victoriana's Revenge - a clipper of the Bomb Bay Tea Company in full sail.

Hybrid prop/sail powered to maximise range. The engines heat the air around the hydrogen cells for extra lift, and the sails can be angled to provide the same.

Angling sails and steering the beast in three dimensions is quite a challenge, so this has a task-specific version of the Babbage/Lovelace analytical engine to make the job easier. It's a "fly by pipe" system, and makes the ship surprisingly agile for such a large vessel.

The whole of the rigging can be folded along the flanks for docking and maneuvering in tight spaces, though it's not a quick process.

For defence it has a number of 20 pound guns in rotating nacelles, and the rigging can be electrified in case of Air-Kraken attack.

This is the second version of the image. the smoke direction has been tweaked and the colour balance has been polished a bit.

This is REALLY good! :D In one of my (rather amateurish) stories a Solar Elf who is a member of the High Council (in charge of technological developments, to be precise) is stationed in the Far North, and uses a large Steampunk Blimp to travel. I kept trying to come up with ideas for SOME sort of blimp, and after all my efforts I still never came up with anything nearly as amazing as your design! xD Don't worry, I wont use your idea in my story-- I would never steal someone else's work. I just wanted to tell you that I was VERY impressed with your design, and the entire concept is brilliant! :D Very excellent work, and I expect great things from you! :)

It's a wonderful painting, and I have always loved the idea of a sailing airship.

Unfortunately, I figured out that it wouldn't work.

Yeah, not without some sort of magic keel. Good for going exactly with the trade winds though.

NIce one matey. The only crit i would have is that the sails are being blown one way and the smoke the other.
Nice concept however.

Lots of people have said that. The thing is that the craft is traveling slower than the wind so the smoke is being blown ahead of it. I've seen this happen with steam trains as well.

However I am going to change it, It'll look better for it. I've got it all as layers so it shouldn't take long.

Your style and implementation of this piece is absolutely wonderful, but it almost pales in comparison to the description. *grin* Wonderful, wonderful words!

Good lord, this is cool. An even-more-steampunk'd out zeppelin, WITH sails, with a name like "Victoriana's Revenge," and mention of some airborne beastie called the 'Air Kraken?'

Favorited. Any spots open on her crew? :D

so That's what it looks like... As I seem to be flying it at the moment (according to the latest Aerotone News broadcast, anyway) I should probably know that, eh?

I hear it's a tricky vessel to master, but once you have it you can run rings around anything in the seven skies.
